Ave regina coelorum

Polyphonic ensemble SATBB

C-C2; A-C3; T-C4; BI-F3; BI-F4. Entire range, F-a’. Cast in breves and semibreves, chant (App. 2) appears as cantus firmus in BI where it is segmented according to specific words or textual phrases;[1] the melody does not influence other voices within the contrapuntal texture. A dense texture with considerable voice crossing in lower voices prevails. The Pre-Tridentine text is set in declamatory style. Final F, b♭ signature.

1. An identical cantus firmus is presented in T of AC109.

Ave, regina caelorum,
Ave, domina angelorum:
Salve, radix, salve, porta,
Ex qua mundo lux est orta:

Gaude, virgo gloriosa,
Super omnes speciosa,
Vale, o valde decora,
Et pro nobis Christum exora.
