Scores

[1] Ave Domina angelorum

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

[S]-G2; [A]-C2; [T]-C3; [B]-F3. High clefs. Entire range, c-g’’. Alternatim setting. Chant (App. 2) permeates the imitative, contrapuntal texture except for the final section “et pro…exora” for which the chant resides in the S primarily in semibreves. Setting of Pre-Tridentine text entails considerable use of melismas (“ave,” “angelorum” and “gloriosa”) within a declamatory style. Final C

1. See AC154 for another alternatim setting of Ave regina caelorum.

[2] Gaude gloriosa

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

[3] Et pro nobis

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

Ave, regina caelorum,
Ave, domina angelorum:
Salve, radix, salve, porta,
Ex qua mundo lux est orta:

Gaude, virgo gloriosa,
Super omnes speciosa,
Vale, o valde decora,
Et pro nobis Christum exora.

***

Pre-Tridentine version:

Ave regina coelorum,
Ave, domina angelorum,
Salve radix sancta

Et pro nobis Christum exora.

***
