CI-G2; CII-G2; A-C2; T-C3; B-C4. High clefs. Entire range, c-g’’. No evidence of chant. Canon in Marian antiphons normally serves as a structural device in middle voices of the texture wherein the respective chant, as semibreves and breves, is replicated at the interval of a fifth or fourth.[1] Lobos created canonic voices at the unison and distance of two breves (CI & CII) with original musical material comparable to that of the three supporting voices. For the initial phrase (mm. 1-3) and text “super omnes speciosa” (mm. 37-40), anticipation of canonic voices integrates canon into texture of the three lower voices. An imitative texture for the three lower voices introduces most textual phrases (e.g., “Ave regina…,” B A T, mm. 1-3; “Ave Domina…,” B A B, mm. 13-20; and “ex qua mundo…,” T A B, mm. 26-32); independent voices complete the phrase. Syllabic text setting with brief melismas of the Pre-Tridentine text prevails. Final g, b♭ signature.
