[C]-C1; T-C3; Ct-F4. Chant, associated with antiphons Alma redemptoris mater (App. 1) and Ave regina coelorum (App. 2), significantly influences this motet. An embellished Alma redemptoris mater chant (C) reflects cantilena style; brief imitative passages between C and T emphasize specific words (“redemptoris,” “porta” and “succurre”). The initial “ave” of Ave regina coelorum introduces the T of both partes but the first two textual phrases (“ave…angelorum” and “salve…orta”) constitute the Ct of the 2.p. Static repeated segments primarily consisting of breves and semibreves (Ct) support the upper voices in the 1.p.: a 12-measure “recitation” formula stated in mm. 2-14 and 15-27 spans the interval of a fourth and a three-measure cadential pattern appears in mm. 53-7 and 61-4. Text incipits define T in both partes and the Ct of 1.p.; text underlay is of limited import. The Pre-Tridentine version of Ave regina coelorum is employed in Ct of 2.p. C final, b-natural for Ave regina coelorum.

Alma redemptoris mater, quae pervia caeli porta manes
Et stella maris, succurre cadenti surgere qui curat populo:
Tu quae genuisti, natura mirante, tuum sanctum genitorem:
Virgo prius ac posterius, Gabrielis ab ore sumens illud, Ave, peccatorum miserere.
