Scores

Polyphonic ensemble SATTB

[C]-G2; [A]-C2; [T I]-C3; [T II]-C3; [B]-F3. High clefs. Entire range, B♭-f’’. Abbreviated “Alma” intonation. Chant (App. 1), cast as a breve and semibreves, introduces “redemptoris” (C, T I, B, mm. 1-6) within an imitative, polyphonic texture. New motivic materials articulate the remaining three textual segments, “et stella…,” “tu quae genuisti…” and “virgo…” Except for occasional melismas (e.g., “mater,” C, mm. 4-6, and “coeli,” T I & B, mm. 10-11, comprised of parallel 5ths that span interval of 9th, B♭/f-c’/g’), a syllabic text setting prevails. Final F, b♭ signature.
