Scores

[1] Alma redemptoris mater/Et genitorem

Polyphonic ensemble ST

[D]-C2 [Ct]-C3; [T]-F2. Paraphrased chant (App. 1) relegated to upper voice. For the 1.p. the lowest voice carries another chant Et genitorum[1] (lacking the text) with 2 statements of the first phrase followed by an abbreviated statement, concluding with what may be the remainder of the chant. The lowest voice of the 2.p. contains the music (an octave lower and without the b♭) and text of the antiphon Ave regina coelorum (App. 2) through the text “lux est orta.” Melismatic text setting prevails. Final C.

1. The text incipit and associated melody have not been located.

[2] Virgo prius/Ave regina coelorum

Alma redemptoris mater, quae pervia caeli porta manes
Et stella maris, succurre cadenti surgere qui curat populo:
Tu quae genuisti, natura mirante, tuum sanctum genitorem:
Virgo prius ac posterius, Gabrielis ab ore sumens illud, Ave, peccatorum miserere.
