Scores

[1] Alma redemptoris mater

Polyphonic ensemble SSTTB

[S I]-C1; [S II]-C1; [T I]-C3; [T II]-C3; [B]-F3. Paraphrased chant (App. 1) appears as canon at the upper fifth and the distance of three semibreves between T I and A; though semibreves usually introduce textual phrases, rhythmic gestures of canonic voices complement other voices. For each textual phrase, the four non-canonic voices, relying on the chant melody, precede the entrance of the canonic voices. Occasional melismas enhance specific words. Final F, b♭ signature.
