Scores

[1] Alma redemptoris mater

Polyphonic ensemble SATBXX

C-G2; Q-G2; A-C2; T-C3; Sx-C3; B-F3. High clefs. Entire range, B♭-f’’. Chant (App. 1) and new material permeate a dense imitative contrapuntal texture; the 2.p., titled “Trio” (C, Q, T) provides a welcome contrast. Two equal C (C & Q) and T (T & Sx) voices exhibit considerable voice crossing within a full voice texture. Text is set in declamatory style particularly evident for phrases “surgere qui curat populo” and “peccatorum miserere.” Final, a (1.p.), F (2.p. and 3.p.), b♭ signature.

[2] Tu quae meruisti

Polyphonic ensemble SXT

[3] Virgo prius
