C-G2; A-C2; T-C3; Q-C3; B-F3. High clefs. Entire range, F-f’’. Chant (App. 2) introduces pars 1 (“Alma,” T, A, B) coupled with an inversion of chant as countersubject (C and Q) in mm. 1-13; plainsong permeates the texture surrounding specific words in pars 1: “redemptoris” (mm. 15-26); “quae per via” (mm. 27-40); “succurre” (mm. 58-70) and “surgere, (mm. 17-3). Plainsong equally emphasizes and defines textual phrases in pars 2 (e.g., “natura” (mm. 86-92), “ac posterius Gabrielis,” (mm. 111-23) and “peccatorum” (mm. 134-52). An imitative, polyphonic texture with overlapping phrases characterizes each pars. Final F, b♭ signature.
