O France, O malheureuse France,
Qui pervertis le vrai nom des François,
Qui pervertis, malheureuse, en furieux, barbare,
France malheureuse:
Et qui l’outrance, dedans tes reins tu nourris et reçois,
Malheureuse France.
Ou bien tu dors, dors tu?
Ou bien tu aperçois le mal present,
Qui rudement te presse, malheureusement France,
Ou furieuse en tel malheur ne vois
Ton bien, ton heur s’enfuir de vitesse,
Malheureuse France.

TRADUCTION :
O France, France, unhappy France,
You who pervert the true name of the French
Into furious barbarian, and those who outrage that name,
In your entrails you nourish and welcome:
Either you are asleep, or else you perceive
This present evil, that savagely oppresses you,
Or else, maddened in such misfortune, you do not see
Your own good, your blessings, flying away so swiftly.
