S-G2; D-C2; A-C3; T-C4; B-F4. Alternatim setting. Two outer partes in triple mensuration surround two lengthy partes in duple mensuration suggesting a symmetrical structure. Except for the initial salve entrances in the four lower voices of pars 1 and the presence of plainsong as a cantus firmus (S) in pars 4, the full-voice contrapuntal web of voices in partes 1 and 4 is devoid of chant. On the other hand, integration of chant within an imitative texture that varies from two voices to full voice emphasizes spatial features in partes 2 and 3. Imitative statements of plainsong associated with textual phrases or words usually share the same rhythmic content (e.g., “Ad te,” 2.p., D, T, B in breves, or “benedictum,” 3.p., D, A, T, B with a breve followed by two semibreves and a breve). Contrasting rhythmic content of “nobis” statements (3.p., mm. 42-51) provides perspective: T (semibreves), D (semibreves), S (breves), A (minums), B (breves).[1] Melismatic text setting defines the two inner partes.
