D I-G2; D II-C1; [A]-C2; [T]-C3; B-C4. High clefs. Entire range, c-g’’. No evidence of chant. Tripartite structure manifests proportional symmetry (1.p., 40 mm., 2.p., 20 mm., 3.p., 30 mm.). Antiphon verses and textual phrases are delineated through cadential articulation, texture, rhythmic gestures and text repetition. Pars 1 illustrates various voice combinations and text repetition: “salve…,” D I, D II, A, T, mm. 1-4; 4 overlapping statements of v. 2, “vita…salve,” full voice, mm. 4-14; “ad…exules,” D II, A, T, 14-6; “ad…Evae,” full voice, mm. 16-20. A minum rest in all voices separates verses 3 & 4. The remainder of 1.p. (mm. 21-40) consists of full-voice sections for “ad te…flentes,” mm. 20-25 and four statements of “in hac…valle,” mm. 29-40; the two sections are joined by three phrases with reduced voices: “gementes et flentes,” D I, A, T, mm. 25-6; “in hac…valle,” D II, A, T, mm. 26-8; and “in hac…valle,” DI, DII, A, T, 28-9. Homophonic and homorhythmic styles with independent voices prevail. Syllabic text setting defines the antiphon. Final d (1.p. & 2.p.) a (3.p.).
