[1] Vita dulcedo

Polyphonic ensemble STBXX

[C]-G2; Ct [I]-C2; Ct [II]-C2; T-C3; B-C4. High clefs. Entire range, B♭-f’’. Alternatim setting. Paraphrased “vita” (“salve”) motto introduces pars 1 (C, Ct I, T, Ct II, B) within an imitative fabric (mm. 1-7) but also complements “salve,” (mm. 19-29), the final word of pars 1 creating a symmetrical structure. C II and B are [tacet] in pars 2. Paraphrased plainsong associated with “Et Jesum,” “fructum” and “nobis” in pars 3 permeate the imitative texture; chant serves as cantus firmus (C) supported by imitative fabric of four lower voices. Descending sequential patterns involving the entire texture prepare the cadences for partes 1 (mm. 21-7) and 4 (mm. 81-8), the former using the “vita” motto and the latter a motive attached to “post hoc exilium.”
Finale g, d (4.p.), e-flats included in text but editorial e-flats are required.

[2] Ad te suspiramus

[3] Et Jesum

Salve, regina, mater misericordiae;

O clemens,

O pia,

O dulcis virgo Maria.
