C I-C1; C II-C1; A I-C3; A II-C3; T I-C4; T II-C4; B I-F4; B II-F4. Entire range, F-f’’. “Vita” (“salve”) motto is absent from 1.p.; however, the initial pitches of chant (App. 4) concurrent with “ad te” permeate the imitative texture (2.p., mm. 43-53). Similarly, the “Et Jesum” motive pervades the texture (3.p., mm. 75-82). Furthermore, isolated motives accompanying “in hac lacrimarum” (mm. 65-74), “nobis” (mm. 111-18) and “O pia” (B I, mm. 148-50 and T II, mm. 161-2) make brief appearances. Although the antiphon was conceived for 3-8 interrelated voices, antiphonal features are obvious. A two-measure segment (mm. 3-5) scored for C I, C II, and A I is restated by lower voices (T II, B I, B II) in the midst of a section (mm. 1-11) that displays considerable redistribution of motivic material. The phrase “post hoc exilium” alternates between two four-voice groups (C II, A II, T II, B I and C I, A I, T I, B II) in measures 118-24. Full-voice sections account for less than a third of partes 1, 3, and 4. Declamatory text setting prevails. Final g (1.p., 2.p., 3.p.) d (4.p.); b♭ signature.

Salve, regina, mater misericordiae;

O clemens,

O pia,

O dulcis virgo Maria.
