Type

Motet

Scores

[1] Salve regina

Polyphonic ensemble SATBX

C-G2; A-C2; Q-C2; T-C3; B-C4. High clefs. Entire range, c-g’’. No evidence of chant; the four initial pitches associated with “in hac lacrimarum” (B, mm. 28-9) may be fortuitous. Brief imitative passages introduce first and third partes within a predominantly homorhythmic texture of this succinct motet. The word “mater” of verse 1 only appears in A, and “virgo” of verse 9 is omitted. Declamatory text setting defined by syllabic style. Final g, b♭ signature.

[2] Eia ergo

[3] O clemens

Salve, regina, mater misericordiae;

O clemens,

O pia,

O dulcis virgo Maria.
