Scores

[1] Salve regina

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

C-G2; A-C2; T-C3; B-F3. High clefs. Entire range, c-f’’. Chant (App. 4) motives introduce most textual phrases within an imitative, contrapuntal texture; “et Jesum” (verse 6) set in homorhythmic style is devoid of chant motive. Chant is also absent in the three acclamations (verses 7-9), the third of which is preceded by a semibreve rest in all voices and distinguished through triple mensuration and homophonic texture. The word “mater” in verse 1 has been omitted. Declamatory text setting in syllabic style prevails. Final g, b♭ signature.

[2] Et Jesum

Salve, regina, mater misericordiae;

O clemens,

O pia,

O dulcis virgo Maria.
