S-C4; T-C4; B-F4. Entire range, F-f’. Salve regina chant (App. 4), set apart in semibreves (e.g., “vita…nostra”) or paraphrased, is primarily relegated to T; paraphrased plainsong appears in S of verse 6, “Et Jesum…” Juvenis joins Hubertus (SR116) as one of two continental composers to include the trope, Virgo mater,[1] of which one of three verses, respectively, precedes each of the three acclamations. Like Hubertus, Juvenis includes “Glorioso Dei,”[2] the fourth verse of the trope, to precede verse 9, “O dulcis virgo Maria” of the antiphon. A paraphrased version of plainsong associated with the trope[3] appears in the T of the three trope verses. Within a contrapuntal texture, imitation introduces several textual phrases (e.g., “salve,” “vita,” “eia ergo” and “O clemens.”) The word “mater” is omitted in verse 1. Text underlay is of limited concern. Final d; to complement chant, 7 and 8 (“O clemens” and “O pia”) have final a.

Virgo mater ecclesiae, / Virgin mother of the church
aeterna porta gloriae, / eternal gate to glory,
esto nobis refugium / be a refuge for us
apud Patrem et Filium. / before the Father and the Son,

O clemens! / O gentle one;

Virgo clemens, virgo pia, / Gentle virgin, virgin holy,
virgo dulcis, O Maria, / O sweet virgin Mary,
exaudi preces omnium / hear the prayers of all
ad te pie clamantium. / Who make their dutiful cry to you,

O pia! / O loving one;

Funde preces tuo nato / Pour out your prayers to your Son,
crucifixo, vulnerato, / crucified, wounded,
et pro nobis flagellato / and scourged for our sake,
spinis puncto, felle potato, / pierced with thorns, given gall to drink.
