[S]-C2; [A]-C4; [T]-C4; [B]-F4. Anticipatory statements introduce chant (App. 4) as a paraphrased cantus firmus at beginning of each pars as well as textual phrases “exules…Hevae” and “ad te suspiramus.” A migrating cantus firmus defines the borrowed melody in 1.p.: T, mm. 3-9; S, mm. 9-72. The T carries the cantus firmus in 2.p. to “Et Jesum” (m. 101) where it appears in B within a homorhythmic texture; thereafter, pervading imitation replete with chant prevails. A three-voice texture (S, A, T) for “misericordes oculos” (mm. 87-96) and subsequent two-voice (T, B) section (“ad nos converte,” mm. 96-101) contrast with surrounding material. An ostinato (B♭, A, B♭, A, G) in semibreves (mm. 21-30) accompanies “et spes nostra, salve.” The word “semper” is inserted in verse 9. Final d.

Salve, regina, mater misericordiae;

O clemens,

O pia,

O dulcis virgo Maria.
