[1] Vita dulcedo

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

[C]-C1; [A]-C3; [T]-C4; [B]-F4. Alternatim setting. Paired imitation introduces partes 2 and 3 (C/A and T/B) wherein paraphrased chant (App. 4) appears in the upper voices of the former and the “Et Jesum” motive in long note values is assigned to the lower voices in the latter; that both partes are in triple mensuration elevates the symmetrical design of the setting. Chant in long-note values serves as cantus firmus (C) in pars 4 where it is supported by an imitative texture (B, A, T); an eleven-measure pedal on a’ (C) hovers above a contrapuntal web that explores a degree of dissonance. Text underlay is of minimal concern. Final d (1.p., 2.p., 3.p.), a (4.p.).

[2] Ad te suspiramus

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

[3] Et Jesum

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

[4] O pia

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

Salve, regina, mater misericordiae;

O clemens,

O pia,

O dulcis virgo Maria.
