[1] Regina celi

Polyphonic ensemble

[C]-C1; T-C4; Ct I-C3; Ct II-C4. Alternatim setting. Typically, the second and fourth textual phrases are polyphonic settings in alternatim treatment of Regina caeli; for this antiphon the first phrase, “regina celi letare, alleluia” is also set polyphonically. Chant (App. 3), presented in C, introduces each textual phrase or specific words (“letare” or “portare”); thereafter, chant undergoes extensive paraphrase. Like RC291, “regina celi” can be regarded as an introduction that concludes with a corona. To emphasize “ora,” two breves capped with coronas followed by a breve rest delineate the word. Except for the trope, Alle Domine nate matris,[1] in duple mensuration, the antiphon text is in triple mensuration. Relegated solely to the C, text is characterized by a highly melismatic style except for the syllabic treatment of the trope. Final F, only the three supporting voices (T, CT I and Ct II) include b♭ and e♭ signature.

1. Alle Domine nate matris Deus alme nobis confer praestaque vivere:
O Lord, born of a kindly mother, grant and give us life.

Quam [quoniam] te decet laus honor O Domine qui de morte surgebas rex pie:
Since praise and honor become you, O blessed Lord, who rose a king from the dead:

Fac nos tecum surgere, alleluia.
Let us rise with you, alleluia.
