Regina celi

Polyphonic ensemble SAAB

[C]-C1; [A I]-C3; [A II]-C3; [B]-F4. The fifth voice (T), a fourth higher at the distance of four semibreves, is derived from the B (fuga per diatessaron intensus). Chant (App. 3) provides the principal motivic material, primarily cast as semibreves, for the segmented canonic voices that support the upper three voices; plainsong also introduces the four textual lines within an imitative texture. Identical segments (mm. 63-74=82-94) constructed upon plainsong that accompanies the final “alleluia” frames the concluding “alleluia,” within an imitative, transparent texture that constitutes almost a third of the antiphon. Final F, b♭ signature.
