[1] Regina celi

Polyphonic ensemble STXX

[C]-C1; S Ct-C3; T-C3; Ct-C4. At times embellished, chant (App. 3), primarily assigned to C in “regina celi” and “quia quem” and to the T in the troped sections (“alle domine” and “quoniam”), permeates the imitative texture of “resurrexit” and “ora pro nobis.” Within all sections chant conforms to the rhythmic gestures of the other voices. Constructed almost entirely of breves and semibreves “resurrexit” functions as the epicenter of the antiphon setting. “Ora pro nobis” and “quoniam” in triple mensuration contrast with duple mensuration of other sections. Text underlay of the C (incipits define the three lower “instrumental” voices) is of limitied concern; the editor of EDM80 has underlaided the C. Final F, partial signatures (b♭) or no signature characterize various sections; therefore, several editorial insertions are necessary.

Alle Domine nate matris Deus alme nobis confer praestaque vivere:
O Lord, born of a kindly mother, grant and give us life.

Quam [quoniam] te decet laus honor O Domine qui de morte surgebas rex pie:
Since praise and honor become you, O blessed Lord, who rose a king from the dead:

Fac nos tecum surgere, alleluia.
Let us rise with you, alleluia.

Trope has “fac nos post te surgere” instead of “fac nos tecum surgere.”
