[1] Quia quem meruisti

Polyphonic ensemble STBX

[C]-C1; Ct-C3; T-C4; B-F4. Alternatim setting.[1] Chant, primarily notated in semibreves, distinguishes each word of “quia quem meruisti portare” within an imitative, contrapuntal texture; ornamented chant defines the “alleluia.” In triple mensuration, the brief homorhythmic setting (7 mm.) of “ora pro nobis Deum” includes chant in T and C. Finale F, b♭ signature.

1. Based upon the antiphon chant in the codex 71 f. 64v of the Illustre Lieve Vrouwe Broederschap te ‘s-Hertogenbosch; for the chant portions to be sung alternately with polyphony, consult the aforementioned codex as well as App. 3.
