Scores

[1] Regina celi

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

C-C1; A-C3; T-C4; B-F4. Chant (App. 3) associated with textual phrases as well as specific words (initial melisma allied with “portare” and the double melisma related to the final “alleluia”) permeates the imitative, contrapuntal texture. The “alleluia” following “resurrexit…dixit” primarily consists of an ascending stepwise sequence followed by a descending sequence involving the entire structure (mm. 16-24). Except for the syllabic text setting at the beginning of textual phrases, melismatic style prevails. A rest (semibreve or minum) separates “quia” and “quem meruisti” and the first and second syllables of “portare.” Final F, b♭ signature.
