[1] Regina coeli

Polyphonic ensemble STB

C-C1; T-C3; B-C4. Chant (App. 3) permeates the imitative, contrapuntal texture for the four textual phrases with most complete statements, primarily in semibreves, evidenced by C and B. Except for occasional chant references (mm. 35-39 and 84-91) “alleluia” sections that conclude 1.p. and 2.p. consist of new material and constitute half of the antiphon (respectively, 20 and 28 mm). Perhaps the combination of chant in B and a series of first-inversion chords (mm. 85-88) is not coincidental. Declamatory text setting prevails. Final F, b♭ signature.

The Trope:

Alle Domine nate matris Deus alme nobis confer praestaque vivere:
Quam [quoniam] te decet laus honor O Domine qui de morte surgebas rex pie:
Fac nos tecum surgere, alleluia.
