Two contrasting choirs. Chr. I: C-C2; A-C3; T-C4; B-F4. Entire range, F-b♭’. Chr. II: C-C1; A-C3; T-C4; B-F4. Entire range, F-d’’. Chant (App. 3), cast as semibreves, introduces “Regina caeli” in Chr. I (T, A, C, mm. 1-8) within an imitative texture, supported by a rhythmically active B, and in Chr. II (C, mm. 10-12). Textual phrases are differentiated through texture, rhythmic gestures and antiphonal techniques. The statement (Chr. I) and response (Chr. II) of “Regina…alleluia” employ the same text and constitute the lengthiest antiphonal activity in the antiphon (18 mm. ). Whereas the initial measures of the statement reflect an imitative texture, the response begins with a texture of independent voices. Both sections conclude with “alleluia” segments (mm. 8-10 and16-8) comprised of rhythmic motives replete with semiminums. Subsequent settings of the remaining three textual lines continue the stylistic dichotomy wherein the “alleluia” segments increase in antiphonal treatment and dimensions: “Quem” (Chr. I, mm. 18-20), “Alleluia” (Chrs. I & II, 20-6)
“Resurrexit” (Chrs. I & II, mm. 26-31), “Alleluia” (Chrs. I & II, 31-6)
“Ora” (Chr. I & II, mm. 37-41), “Alleluia” (Chrs. I & II, 41-51). Overlapping antiphonal statements normally extend for the duration of a breve to a semiminum. Full voice texture (8 vv.) is relegated solely to “alleluia” segments: mm. 23-6; 34-6; 41-4; and 48-51. Syllabic text setting prevails. Final F, b♭ signature.
