RC139 Regina caeli 4 vv

Type

Motet

Scores

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

C-C1; A-C2; T-C3; B-F3. Entire range, B♭-e’’. Chant (App. 3), associated with initial words of the four textual phrases (“regina…,” “quia…,” resurrexit…” and “ora…”) permeates the imitative, polyphonic texture with overlapping phrases. Brief “alleluia” segments follow the first three textual phrases; on the other hand, the final “alleluia” (mm. 32-43) comprises almost a quarter of this brief antiphon. Rhythmic gestures primarily involve minums and semiminums. Except for brief melismas (“regina” all voices, mm. 2-6 and “Deum,” T, mm. 31-3), a syllabic text setting prevails. Final f, b♭ signature.
