Scores

Regina coeli

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

D-C1; A-C3; T-C4; B-F4. “Regina coeli” intonation in D (App. 3); the remainder of this concise antiphon (32 mm.) lacks chant references. Textual phrases are differentiated through texture and mensuration. A layered texture with imitation (D/T) combined with simultaneous semibreves and breves (A/B) defines line 1, “latare, alleluia.” A homorhythmic texture accompanies line 2, “quia…portare,” followed by an imitative texture for the concluding “alleluia” segment (mm. 6-12). Triple mensuration and homophonic/homorhythmic texture defines line 3, “resurrexit…alleluia” (mm. 13-23). A descending stepwise motive in A (mm. 24-6) within a homorhythmic texture that accompanies “ora…Deum” becomes the subject of an imitative passage associated with the final “alleluia” (mm. 26-32). Final F, b♭ signature.
