Scores

[1] Regina coeli

Polyphonic ensemble SATBXX

C-C1; Q-C2; A-C3; Sx-C4; T-C4; B-F4. Chant (App. 3) greatly influences the structure of the motet through its role in the canon between Q and Sx and anticipatory and imitative statements within a contrapuntal texture. Canon at the lower fifth (“Fuga duorum temporum in diapente remissum”) at the distance of two breves defines the 1.p. whereas canon at the upper fifth (“In diapente intensum Fuga duorum temporum”) also at the distance of two breves distinguishes the 2.p.[1] Canonic voices are characterized by breves and semibreves except for text “quem meruisti” and final “alleluia” where rhythmic gestures are comparable to non-canonic voices. Canonic voices include repetition of text and chant for “ora…Deum” and all melismas. Declamatory text setting prevails. Final F, b♭ signature.

1. RC065 uses comparable canonic treatment.

Quia quem meruisti portare, alleluia,

Ora pro nobis Deum, alleluia.
