Regina caeli

Polyphonic ensemble SSATTB

[S I]-G2; [S II]-G2; [A]-C1; [T I]-C3; [T II]-C3; [B]-C4. High clefs. Entire range, c-g’’. S I and S II share the same range (g’-g’’) and engage in imitation of material in the respective voices; in the same manner, T I and T II encompass identical ranges (g-a’) and comparable interaction between the two voices. Textual phrases contrast through presence (“regina…laetare,” “quia…meruisti” and “ora”) or absence (“resurrexit”) of chant, texture and use of antiphonal effects, the latter prominently displayed in restatement of material for four-voice groupings “resurrexit…dixit” and “alleluia,” sections that also reflect homorhythmic texture. Lower voices exhibit presence of disjunct intervals (4th, 5th and octave) with tonal implication in B. Declamatory text setting prevails. Final C.
