Scores

Ave regina celorum

Polyphonic ensemble SATB

S-C1; A-C3; T-C3; B-C4. Except for the text incipit “ave regina celorum” the setting is not texted; nor is there evidence of the Ave regina celorum chant melody. The initial pitches of “regina caeli,” however, appear in the S in longae through m. 16. Of interest are two subsequent passages also with cantus firmi in longae but in the T. In all three instances the entire texture involves ascending sequential treatment. Final G.

Ave, regina caelorum,
Ave, domina angelorum:
Salve, radix, salve, porta,
Ex qua mundo lux est orta:

Gaude, virgo gloriosa,
Super omnes speciosa,
Vale, o valde decora,
Et pro nobis Christum exora.
