D-G2; A-C2; T-C3; B-C4. High clefs. Entire range, B-g’’. The paraphrased chant (App. 2) permeates the paired imitative texture of the first textual phrase “ave…angelorum.” To complement repetition of music within the chant for “ave regina coelorum” and “ave Domina angelorum” Isaac employs the same musical material for each phrase.[1] Thereafter, the chant is stated in long note values in the T (“salve radix”), but absent for “ex qua…orta”. For the 2.p. chant only appears at the beginning of “gaude…” and “vale…” within an imitative fabric but is absent for the remainder of the setting. Cadences at the close of textual phrases, repetition of musical material and use of triple mensuration for “vale…nobis” emphasize the formal structure. Of particular interest are the frequent sequential passages, some involving the entire texture (“ex qua…orta”) with the presence of parallel 10ths (“radix”) and 4ths (“lux est orta”). Due to the inclusion of chant in the setting, the presumed Pre-Tridentine text, primarily in melismatic style, can be underlaid with a degree of certainty. Final C.
