Biography

His family apparently stemmed from Zurendriesch, in southern Ghent (Wright 1979, p. 59, n. 24).

Chapel of Louis of Male, 1383-1384
He is listed as a clerk in the court chapel of Louis de Male from April 1383 onwards, with the lowest annual wages of 16 l. (Wright 1979, p. 21-22 after F-AD59, B 4072, f. 46-46v). On 28.2.1384 he was formally released from his duties along with the other members of Louis’s court chapel (Wright 1979, p. 56). In between this and being recruited into Philip the Bold’s court, he and the former members of Louis’s court chapel were given 80 francs each to provide for their personal needs (Wright 1979, p. 187, doc. 44: "pour faire leurs depens et avoir leurs neccessitez").

Chapel of Burgundy, 1384-1388
From 14.4.1384 onwards, he was engaged as a clerk at Philip the Bold’s court along with the other members from Louis de Male’s court. He disappeared from the court records by 1389.
