Biography

He is mentionned as a witness to a deed of the Este family in 1454, in which he is called the son of "Petrus Suchar", probably a corrupt form of the name. He went to Ferrara Cathedral in September 1460 to instruct the vicars in singing, and was still there a year later, perhaps staying until 1467, when he was appointed as Magister cantus of S. Petronio, Bologna. He remained there until October 1474, "when he returned to England" (D. Fallows in Grove Online "De Anglia, Robertus").

Two songs with Italian texts are attributed to him in the Porto chansonnier (P-Pm 714, dated c. 1460). He might be a relative of Galfridus de Anglia, only known by the attribution of two other songs included in the same chansonnier.
