Biography

Chapel of Louis of Male, 1379-1384
Listed as chaplain in the court of Louis de Male. His duties as chaplain extended from at least 1379 (Wright 1979, p.21) up to Louis’s interment on 28.2.1384: on that date he was formally released from his duties along with the other members of Louis’s court chapel (Wright 1979, p. 56). In between this and being recruited into Philip the Bold’s court, he and the former members of Louis’s court chapel were given 80 francs each to provide for their personal needs (id., p.187, document 44: “pour faire leurs depens et avoir leurs neccessitez”).

Chapel of Burgundy, 1384-1390
He was engaged at Philip the Bold’s court on 14 April 1384, along with other members from Louis de Male’s court. In the lists of chaplains and clerks, he consistently appeared below the first chaplain Jean de Chartres. During his time in the court, he received money from Philip the Bold to put toward obtaining housing, and he held a house at Oudenaarde in the 1380s. By 1391 he left the court, as he is not present in the list for that year (Wright, p. 21, 56, 59, 72, 79, 192, 212-217, after documentation from F-AD 21). He is also mentionned as an almoner in 1383 (Prevenier 1982, p. 99).
