Biography

He was one of the four Cambrai choristers whom Grenon took with him to Rome in June 1425, probably the same age as his two companions who were born around 1408. He sang in the papal chapel from June 1425 to November 1427. In 1426 he had been granted a canonicate at St-Amé in Douai, and apparently went back to Douai after his years in Rome (Planchart PCR / 2018, p. 94-95 and 746, after V-CVaav, I&E 383, f. 44v; I&E 385, f. 151; RS 202, fol. 108-108v). The acts of St-Amé have a lacuna from 1423 to 1434, but Rongh appears at the very beginning of the next register, when he asked to do his first year of residence at the annual general chapter meeting on the eve of Saint John the Baptist 1434. He is then listed as present at the chapter meeting of 10 March 1435 (ibid. and Fiala PCR, after F-AD59, 1G16, f. 1, 14), and he continued to appear consistently in the acts, always as a canon holding the rank of subdeacon, until his death in January 1492. His will survives (F-AD59, 1G155, f. 160).
