Biography

[English translation available below]

-- English translation G. McDonald --
Gomont appeared in the papal chapel as singer, chaplain, “familiaris et commensalis” of Pope Leo X from 24.9.1517, described as a cleric of the diocese of Évreux (“clericus Ebroicensis diocesis”). From this time a document indicates that he was provost of the church of Sainte-Marie de Forcalquier. On 30.9.1519, he ceded to another servant of the pope his benefice at the parish church of Saint-Julien de Lunegarde (dioc. Cahors ; Frey 1955-1956, (8) p. 72-73 ; (9), p. 415). He was still present in the papal chapel on 6.11.1521 and is still named in a list that is not dated, but must have been complied between December 1526 and May 1527 (Sherr 1976, p. 474, 477). On all this, see also Sherr CSB Gomont.
