Biography

[English translation available below]
-- English translation G. McDonald --
Thinille was a singer and chaplain in the chapel of Leo X in 1515-1516. A document of 19.6.1516 indicates that he was at that time a canon of Bayeux (“canonico Baiocensis”) and aged about seventeen years; this allows us to date his birth at about 1499, and to suppose that if he was already at that age recipient of a canonicate at a cathedral, he was probably from an aristocratic family, perhaps the de Thiville family. A bull of 17.12.1515 had provided him with a position of lay provost of the Collegiate church of Our Lady of “Lunicello” (“Beata Maria de Lunicello”, dioc. Pavia; to be identified). On 19.6.1516, he was given the prebendary canonicate of “Fegueroles” in the Cathedral of Bayeux, which had previously belonged to Carpentras* (Frey 1955-1956, (8) p. 194).
