Biography

[English translation available below]

-- English translation, G. McDonald --
In a papal bull issued on 3.8.1520, Petrus Pirrinus is described as a singer and member of the household (“familiaris et continuus commensalis”) of Pope Leo X, and as rector of the parish church of Saint-Pierre in Avéjan (dioc. Uzès ; F-dép. Gard), aged fourteen or thereabouts. This bull also provided him with the chaplaincy of Our Lady in the church of Aramon (dioc. Uzès [Uticensis]; F-dép. Gard, in the vicinity of Avignon) (Frey 1955-1956, (8) p. 194; see text of the bull reproduced below and Goiffon 1900, p. 143 and 146, for the identification of these two benefices). From 21.1.1521, he was mentioned as “cantorino secreto”, that is in the capacity of page (“little singer”) to the group of the pope’s private singers. Documents for this same year may indicate that he was attached as a page to Elzéar Genet dit Carpentras* (Id., (9) p. 50). Still mentionned in April 1521, his later career remains to be reconstructed. See also Sherr CSB: http://sophia.smith.edu/~rsherr/pirrinus.htm
