Biography

Given the extreme commonness of the name "Guillaume (Le) Petit" or "Petit Guillaume", this file gathers information on four individuals (numbered 1 to 4) whose archival mentions do not overlap in time, but whose interrelationships are undocumented. It seems at least plausible that indivuals 1, 2 and 3 are indeed one person.

Cathedral of Cambrai, 1441-1445 and 1463
A "Parvus Guillermus" (1) is documented as a chorister of the cathedral of Cambrai between 1441 and 1445 (Planchart PCR / 2018, p. 711, after F-AD 59, 4G 7762 (1441-42), f. 5v; (1444-45), f. 10r) and a "Guillermus Parvus" (2) as a small vicar for three days, 10-12 August 1463 (id., 4G 7462, f. 5v).

Basilica Saint Peter in Rome, 1464-1465
A "Guillelmo Parvo" (3) is amongst the new singers admitted in the choir of Saint Peter from 1464 onwards : "Francisco Radulphi, Hugoni, Gofredo, Guillelmo Parvo, Johannes Sclavolini, and Gregorio's temporary replacement Gaspare, who himself gave way to Thomaso". He served from november 1464 to February 1465 (Reynolds 1995, p. 47 and , p. 332, app. 2: "Guillelmus Parvo: 11/1464-2/1465").

Chapel of Charles, count of Charolais, 1466
On 20.11.1466, a priest named "Guillaume Petit" (4) was engaged as chaplain of the chapel of Charles, count of Charolais, an institution for which no evidence suggests that it included singers (Fiala 2002 / PCR, after B-AGR, AdL, céd. 1117). This chaplain might be identified with an homonym, described as a cleric of the diocese of Nevers, bachelor in canon law and familiaris of the pope, who was given an expectative for a convent in Autun (Gotteri 1971, p. 507-508).
